Today's current Computer's, TV's, DVR's and more use some sort of cooling method to keep the hardware cool. The problem is that most hardware that gets hot and needs to be cooled, uses an outdated passive air cooling method. Technology is becoming more advanced and more powerful but to harness this power, we must control it. Ever notice your Computer or DVR lag? This is a common possibility that it's become over heated. Whether we edit videos or play games on our computers, the hardware becomes hot, this makes the performance decrease and the longevity of the parts shorter.

When we are fed up with the lag and the performance decrease in our hardware due to heat, we typically either buy something new or spend more then we should to keep something properly cooled. A drastic method to keep your computer cool that very few seek out is liquid cooling, be warned, it is not cheap entirely. A full liquid cooled set up might cost you around $1000. Some products are available to cool individual parts that cost much less. This usually cools the CPU and the GPU(main processing components). 

The most common method of keeping the main processing components of hardware cooled is with Heat Sinks. Heat Sinks have metal fins on them attached to the most problematic head radiating areas to allow passive air to pass thew them to reduce the temperature. Some CPU coolers even have heat pipes to dissipate the heat faster. As far as uncommon methods to cooling hardware but way more effective is liquid cooling. This process uses a dedicated consistent flow of liquid that passes threw a finned radiator housed with pipes that allows fans to cool off the hot liquid that has passed over main components. But most computers do not have this installed and typically have to be post installed.

Air cooling is an out-dated technology as mentioned, but sense it is not practical to house every consumer grade hardware with liquid cooling, we must first understand the basics of air cooling so that we may improve it.

Two things we must understand. The first, space is a vacuum that is -455°F in temperature. The second, heat is a measurement of the speed of atoms and molecules. So what happens if we take the basic concept of combining the two? To do this we must stack these fans on top of another. Why should we do this? By doing this we create a temporary vortex or vacuum if you will, that isolates the air from the outside the vacuum, thus cools the air itself and slows down the molecules and atoms. This as well multiply's the temperature reduction depending how many fans you decide to stack. Should you combine the liquid cooling method with this new improved method of air cooling, you should see mind blowing results.

How effective would it be if we were to use this Air Vacuumed ​Molecular Isolationing method? Some enthusiast have alread stubled apon this method. As an example from the analyzer who catalogged this information, was running an six-core micro processor(high performance CPU), an H100(cpu liquid cooler) and 40 CPU fans stacked. His reports showed a mind blowing -20°F. Note, the H100 generally reduces cpu temperatures from a common 70°F to 30-50°F. So how is the H100 making it -20°F? All of those fans he stacked together to the H100's radiator is how.

40 fans is obviously overkill, for now but depending on the task individuals are seeking to take on may need exactly this new method. Individuals who run servers that are constantly under load, the enthusiast gamer or even the casual video editor would experience much better cooling as well as better performance with devices or hardware that require cooling with this method.

As far as the casual consumer and the standard current procedure that are hardware we use, such as Computers, DVR's or TV's that rely on the air cooling method as most things do currently, it would be wise to simply modify the current designs of the cases that hold these components to house fans that can be stacked or come pre-stacked.

When you ask why people choose Windows over Linux, it's often the same answer : "Games".

Gabe Newell, aka the Steam Guy, announce that Valve will port its platform on Linux. That a huge success for Linux, inciting windows user to download it.

What is really Linux for the desktop user?

From a long time, it have been the choice of choosing the software you want for a specific task. For example, some distributions prefers using Firefox as base browser, others Konqueror, others Epiphany, etc.. Meanwhile Windows ends up with one browser : Internet Explorer. This is less and less true nowadays, since open source projects tends to also port their software to Windows. Some software remains easier to install with Linux, through Package manager, than windows.

Package Manager is a big advantage for Linux distributions : it helps u search, choose and install the software you want, without googl-ing during hours because you doubt about quality of a software.

Another great thing about Linux is you can choose your desktop environment : Unity or KDE is too high on resources or you don't like its configuration? try XCFE or LXDE ! You don't like GUI and prefer old CLI? Try AwesomeWM, Ratpoison, and many others.

The time of configuring during hours to make it works is finished, at least on user-friendly distributions ( Ubuntu, Mint , SnowLinux, PCLinuxOS). Most of the hardware is recognized, and you just have to click next install.

For those who liked these configuration phase, don't worry, there is distributions for you : ArchLinux, Gentoo, Slackware, etc...

What about gaming ?

As i said in Introduction, Steam decided to unleash his platform for Linux.

Because it's beta, there's some backwards :

• Some games are still buggy : Porting games which are not natively portable is a huge pain in the ass work, and some bugs can randomly appear,

• The platform supports officially Ubuntu, and only Ubuntu. Although it's still  possible to make steam work on others distributions, like Debian or Arch Linux, you will have to make some configuration

• There's a few games (about 100) , and blockbusters are still not ported. A lot of Indies games are yet ported, and some big title (Dota2, Counter Strike : Source, Team Fortress2, ...)

To conclude, I think it's not yet the time to install Linux for playing, unless you're an indie game fan. But, as the list of games grows, it will be interessant to install Linux to play in a short period.

Death of Windows?

Nope, not yet. Linux still need good video editing softs, good audio editing softs, and some recognition of the latest hardware as soon as they come in the market. But i am certain Windows or the proprietary Windows as we know today will die, and this day approaching.
